What Is a Sea Bob?

A Sea Bob is an underwater propulsion device that lets you glide effortlessly beneath the surface — no experience needed, nothing to master. Hold on, dive down, and move through the water the way you always imagined you could. Available exclusively on our twin Lagoon 42 catamarans, Kai Lana and Pau Hana, Sea Bobs can be rented solo or as a pair. Floating over a reef in crystal-clear Caribbean water, this is the kind of thing you'll talk about long after you're home.

Sea Bob Use & Safety

Sea Bobs are powerful underwater scooters — easy and fun, but please read these before your first ride. Our crew will also give you a hands-on briefing on the water.

How to use it

  • Wear your gear. Keep the provided flotation/impact vest on, plus a mask or goggles, and tie back long hair.
  • Two hands, firm grip. Hold both handles at all times, and keep fingers, hair, and loose items away from the intake grilles.
  • Start slow. Begin in the lowest speed setting — squeeze to go, release to stop — and get comfortable at the surface first.
  • Stay shallow to start. Ride at or near the surface until you're confident; never go deeper than you can comfortably swim back up.
  • Point it away from people. Keep the nose aimed away from swimmers, riders, the boat, coral, and rocks.
  • Stay in the zone. Ride only where the crew shows you and within sight. One rider per Sea Bob.
  • Come back when signaled. Return to the vessel when the crew waves you in.

Warnings

  • Keep clear of the intake grilles — fingers, hair, and straps can be pulled in and cause injury.
  • Be a capable swimmer and comfortable in open water. Pace yourself and know your limits.
  • Mind depth and pressure. Don't dive deeper than you can safely ascend; going too deep can cause ear or sinus injury.
  • Health conditions. Don't use if pregnant or with heart, back, neck, or ear conditions without a doctor's clearance.
  • No impairment. Never operate under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Watch your surroundings — boat traffic, other swimmers, marine life, coral, rocks, and shallow or low-visibility areas.
  • It's heavy and strong. If you're unsure, stop, release the triggers, and signal the crew.
  • Report problems. Stop and tell the crew if it feels hot, takes on water, won't stop, or acts up. Don't tamper with the battery or controls.
  • Minors. Riders under 18 need a parent or guardian's consent and must follow all age, weight, and supervision rules.
